About Well Made
Well Made is an Industrial Design studio and fabrication wood shop focused on framing and organization, located in the west Logan Square neighborhood of Chicago. Founded in 2013, we work directly with customers, businesses, retailers and distributors. Our handcrafted products have shipped to over 50 countries and our work has been seen on the DIY Network, Real Simple, Food and Wine, Huff Post and dozens of other blogs, magazines and tv networks.
We are looking for a sharp minded fabricator to focus for a short period of time on general carpentry. Our physical location has a newly acquired expansion, requiring infrastructure to be built up in both our shop and offices. The ideal candidate will be self-sufficient in general carpentry tasks such as demo work, framing walls, drywalling, etc. , and also have a desire to learn and contribute in the woodshop with our growing number of production tasks. We have a 2-3 month timeline for build-out efforts with the goal of transitioning someone to our team full-time as a production fabricator.
A typical work week in this position will have you taking the lead on shop and office build-out duties, executing the vision laid out by the Well Made team. A large amount of responsibility will be to become self-sufficient in carrying out tasks and making decisions on how to properly build out the space. Being flexible in your approach and working toward team oriented goals is a must. The ability to create and communicate punch lists and bill of materials will be needed to efficiently execute the build out.
Skills and Abilities
A strong understanding of construction and industrial woodworking equipment is a must as safety is our highest priority. Candidate must be responsible, accountable and punctual – a self-starter and entrepreneurial attitude is ideal. Must be mathematically and mechanically inclined and show an ability to problem solve. Computer skills are a plus but not a qualifier.
Experience / Education
Notice we put Experience before Education. Much of what we do requires hands on experience. Shop experience of some sort is critical as well as being qualified to operate power tools. Previous work experience is enough for the right candidate. No formal degree required, high school diploma or equivalent is a must.
Commitment / Compensation
Minimum of 5 days a week (9am-5pm) $15+/hour starting salary. This position is technically temporary, but has a high opportunity of shifting to a full time position as a woodshop associate. Full-time employment includes two weeks paid vacation, 3 paid sick days, health insurance after three months and retirement plan.
