Here's a bright idea, you deserve more.
We are here because we believe that we all deserve more from the products we buy. There is this massive disconnect nowadays between the quality of the things we want to own and the things we actually do own. It seems like someone, at some point, made this decision for us that it was OK for our things to just fall apart.
And that just doesn’t sit well with us.
Creativity runs deep.
Founder, Brandon Knowlden grew up about an hour north of Detroit Michigan. In the Spring of 2002, after a lifetime of remodeling homes, Brandon’s parents purchased a dilapidated cabin on several acres for their most ambitious rehab to date. In order to properly service the renovation, a wood shop nearly as large as the house was built. During the same period of time, one of Brandon’s four siblings was nurturing a young tree service into existence called Big Twigs. As the company grew, so did access to premium, local lumber.
In 2013, Brandon Knowlden founded Well Made after putting in nearly 10 years as an Art director in the advertising industry. Brandon cut his teeth refining thousands of ideas into careful crafted campaigns for brands like Porsche, Corona and Panera Bread. The time had finally come to begin using his creativity to create something that lasted more than a 30 second television commercial. And so, Well Made was born.
We are curious.
When we look at a problem, our first instinct is not to solve it – at least not right away. Whether we’re creating a new product or a custom piece of furniture, our job is to understand why the need exists in the first place. Only then can our work tell more than our story, it can help you tell yours.
We are storytellers.
A huge point of pride here at Well Made is our ability to tell an authentic origin story through our control of the entire process.
We source our hardwood responsibly from our family tree service in Detroit, Michigan. This means that we hand pick each and every tree before it comes down due to storm damage, construction or insurance liability. What that means to you is premium material with an incredible back story. We even go so far as to document the latitude and longitude of each tree prior to removal so its story can be passed along to our customers.
We also use reclaimed material in a lot of our projects. This material comes from the Chicago salvage and deconstruction industry. We work with local companies to hand pick the most usable material with the best stories from the substantial history only Chicago can offer.
We, are Well Made.
As our world continues to move faster and faster, there are growing numbers of those like us who believe in slowing down. Things shouldn't fall apart after a few days or months or years. When you have something made properly, it rarely needs to be replaced. And when something is beautifully designed it becomes a part of something larger than itself. But most of all, we make because we are curious. And we hope you are too.
